Day 1, Talk 1: Eyes Open - Bible Study

Let us begin our interactive learning process by sharing how it works, surf through the videos and reading material, towards the end you'll find the comments section. Summarise what you learnt through the materials here, you are encouraged to share questions and doubts as well.

Let's begin by asking ourselves, "how can we study the Bible?" Good Question! It calls for a video, this Bible Project video gives us an idea of how to begin the process and what it involves. Check it out.

Yes, Bible-study is a continuous adventure, we study the Bible, it challenges us to live it out, we struggle and experience God help us to live it out, which encourages us dig deeper into His word. This cycle keeps going on in the life of every student of the Bible.

Here's a secret, this life-long process is made sweeter by an ingenious way of learning called the inductive style. Imagine a crime-scene and you are the detective, what would you do? Go after the criminals? Nah! Every detective worth his salt keeps his eyes wide open and observes. He looks around the crime-scene gathering clues. He doesn't take short-cuts neither does he come to any hasty conclusions. Next, he analyses the clues to identify the culprit and motive for the crime, which leads us to the final step i.e. acting on it. Now you can go and arrest culprit.

Bible-study takes a similar form, you start by reading, reading and reading some more. The idea is to see what's happening, who's there and more. This act of looking for clues sets you up to understand what the text says and obey it. So how do we observe and what do we observe. Well, that calls for a workout!

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
